Thanksgiving Swim 2013

In what started out years ago as a “tough” workout at the Rye YMCA for a handful of regulars, has turned into an all ability swim for a cause and great camaraderie.  Jim Carlson, seeing the financial needs for Claire Gormley Collier’s battle against ALS years ago teamed up with Claire’s brother Phil and the Y was very receptive. Each year over 100 people participate, volunteer, or spectate the event.  As Lauren Johnson who traveled form Tarrytown summed it up…."Great event! I love swimming, I love swimming for a great cause even more!!!"

With Claire’s passing in May 2009, the mission statement of the MAC Angels changed to primarily helping families in similar situations to Claire’s deal with the financial strain of being afflicted with ALS, and to help those PALS live at home with “grace and dignity”, and in a loving family environment.  “The support from the community, both past and present, is a real testimony of human spirit, and so appreciated!” chimes Gormley.
